Meals on Wheels Driver
Drivers use their own vehicle to deliver meals to homebound seniors. Driver volunteers must have a valid California Driver’s License, a clean DMV record, proof of car insurance, and at least 21 years of age. Drivers can work with a partner (preferred) or work alone to keep simple logs of the food temperature and delivery times. Delivery routes of 10-15 meals take approximately 60-90 minutes to complete. Drivers are needed Monday - Friday, between 10:30am – 12:30pm. Volunteers typically assist once a week, or as their schedule allows, or as an on-call substitute.
Kitchen aides assist to package the hot and cold prepared food for delivery and to serve lunchtime meals at the nutrition sites. They also set dining places, record attendance, plate meals, and help with cleanup. Kitchen aides volunteer Monday - Friday, between 9:00am – 12:30pm.
We are looking for a few outstanding people to serve on the Meals on Wheels Yolo County Board of Directors. It’s important to diversify our board composition so that it reflects the community we serve. For example, we currently do not have a board member who resides in West Sacramento, and we serve many folks there who should be represented. We’re also always looking for people with backgrounds that could potentially help the board make the best decisions for our organization. For example, expertise in providing care for the elderly, or in food service or logistics. That being said, passion and commitment for the mission of Meals on Wheels and a willingness to serve are paramount. For the responsibilities, qualifications, time and contribution commitment, please access the Board Member Job Description and Responsibilities sheet here. If you have any questions, an interest in serving, or know anyone who might be interested in serving, contact Executive Director, Christi Skibbins, at: email@example.com, or by phone, at: 530-662-7035. See the full role description here (PDF).
Use your people, social media, and/or organizational skills to help us get the word out about our programs, volunteering for Meals on Wheels, and senior hunger issues. Community outreach volunteers must be at least 18 years of age. Hours are flexible based on availability and need.
